Apple MacBook Pro with ?Touch Bar? launched, prices start at Rs 1,55,900

Apple has updated its MacBook Pro line-up of laptops, announcing the upgraded range at its 'Hello Again' event in Cupertino, California. The company unveiled the MacBook Pro with Touch ID and Touch Bar. The all-metal unibody laptop comes in two variants based on screen size - 13.3-inch and 15.4-inch. Both are lighter and thinner (14.9mm and 15.5mm respectively) than their predecessors. While the 13-inch variant starts at Rs 1,55,900, the 15-inch version starts at Rs 2,05,900.
There is also an upgraded 13-inch version with Intel Core i5 processor, 8GB RAM, and 256GB flash storage that starts at Rs 1,29,900. The particular model misses out on the Touch ID and Touch Bar features. In India, all three models will be made availalbe soon.
Running macOS Sierra, the upgraded MacBook Pro features an OLED strip called 'Touch Bar'. This is in line with what many rumours suggested. The strip serves as a secondary display and can show anything from emojis to navigation buttons relative to the context of the application that is active on the screen.
The Touch Bar supports multi-touch functionality and automatically adapts itself based on different apps. Some of the apps supported include Calendar, Final Cut Pro X, Mail, Safari and Finder. Users can add or remove buttons from the strip via simple drag and drop operations. It can also show the digital equivalent(s) of function keys and comes with a power key in the corner, embedded with Touch ID functionality. It's worth noting that the Touch ID supports Apple Pay. It is also the first time that Apple has brought its Touch ID fingerprint sensor on the MacBook
The Touch ID on the new MacBook Pro is powered by Apple's new T1 processor. It also supports different profiles, based on a user's registered fingerprints. The LED-backlit Retina display of the new MacBook is claimed to be 67% brighter than its predecessor. It also has a 67% contrast ratio in comparison
Both the models are powered by 6th generation Intel Core i5 (13-inch version) and Core i7 (15-inch version) CPU paired with AMD Radeon GPU. While the 15-inch variant comes with 16GB RAM, 256GB/512GB flash storage options and AMD Radeon GPU, the 13-inch variant comes in 8GB RAM, 256GB/512GB flash storage and Intel Iris GPU.There are also dual speakers placed on either side of the keyboard.
Available in Space Grey and Silver colour variants, the new MacBook Pro comes with a new keyboard. It has a 2nd gen Butterfly Switch mechanism, previously seen in the 12-inch MacBook. The Force Touch-enabled trackpad has also been overhauled and is now twice as large as the one present in previous models.
On the connectivity front, the new Apple MacBook Pro models include all standard ports such as Thunderbolt (4), USB 3.1 Gen 2, DisplayPort 1.2, HDMI, Wi-Fi and VGA. In terms of battery, the 13-inch MacBook with Touch Bar and Touch ID is backed by an integrated 49.2-watt-hour lithium-polymer battery, while its larger screen sibling is powered by an integrated 76.0-watt-hour lithium-polymer battery.
